Hi Brian,

I've recently gone through the process of updating page titles on the products section of our website in order to make them more descriptive. Then spidered the website, but the page titles listed (in edit results) appear to not have been updated. It spidered OK as it included some recently introduced pages. View Source confirms that the titles have been changed. Google indexed the site on 6th May after I uploaded the sitemap and the titles on site:www. etc appear to be as per the sitemap generator not the updates. As far as I can see the Google sitemap does not contain page title info. Just a bit confused as to why both Google and the Sitemap Generator don't pick up the changes. If it 's a difficult one I'll bug someone else.

Best regards

Hi AlanJ,

I believe the Sitemap Generator will only get titles for pages that are new or don't already have a title saved in the results.
This is done because some people change their titles in the software results and don't want them overwritten.
I see your point though...maybe a Preference is needed.

In the meantime, you could update all of your results and clear out the titles...then re-spider the site.
Please try that and let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,

Only way I could find to clear out the titles in the edit results page was to use the filter as follows, Select rows where the TITLE equals E (common letter found in most titles) change TITLE to … Field left blank. Ditto to description. Applied the change and this successfully removed the entries for the title and description fields. Then re-spidered, but out of the 741 unique pages found it only put titles and descriptions against 4 locations. Nothing left in the filter boxes and of the 4 titles each had an ā€˜E’ in them. Did this twice with identical results.

Best regards Alan

AlanJ,

I just sent you an email.
I tested the software with your scenario and it's working correctly.
I think you might have an older version where this didn't work perfectly.
Please check your email and let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Brian
