Great program! I have a small problem FTPing the site map to my server - although I think the settings are identical to my FTP software, it always fails to connect. Would it be possible to have some report of the FTP "conversation" to help debug this? - Roger

Hi Brian,

This sounds like the same error I reported to you by email a while back. On two of my websites the FTP connection is made without problem and I can upload the sitemap to any folder I like, but with my OWN COMPANY's website (www.guiver-freeman.com) I can't get an FTP connection to work no matter what settings I use. Google Sitemap Generator just hangs for something like 10 minutes and then comes back with the error message "Index was outside the bounds of the array".
This applies to the Google, Yahoo and the HTML versions of the sitemap.

Any ideas?

One other person had FTP issues and I couldn't resolve it either.
The hard part is that I can FTP fine to all of the servers I post to, so I can't duplicate it.
If either of you wouldn't mind, please setup an account for me to log into.
It will need read/write access to test connecting, logging in and uploading.
Please send these credentials to me via email at "brian at iarchitect dot net"

Hi Brian,

I can't create an additional user to my COMPANY website (www.guiver-freeman.com) with FTP access, only the admin user has FTP rights.
If I send you the details you require I would be giving you free and permanent access to my website, with all rights and I can't delete the admin user as I'm it!
Needless to say I don't feel very comfortable about giving anyone that much access...

As I stated, I can FTP upload to two websites without problem. All three websites are hosted by different companies. There is just something about my own website that won't allow Sitemap Generator to FTP to it, using exactly the same settings as I use to FTP from Dreamweaver 8, whereas Sitemap Generator CAN FTP to the other two sites using the same settings as I use to FTP to them from Dreamweaver 8.

The main files of my website are in a folder labelled "content" in the root of the website. This folder also contains the sitemap files. In the Sitemap Generator Preferences I have specified the "FTP Remote Path" as "/content/". Whether or not I specify this folder doesn't make any difference; attempts to FTP the sitemap cause Sitemap Generator to hang and eventually give the error message.

In the other websites that DO allow FTP from Sitemap Generator the main files are also in a folder in the root of the website. Specifying the respective folders in the Sitemap Generator Preferences for those websites causes the sitemap files to be placed exactly where I want them, no problem. Not specifying the folders causes the sitemap files to be placed in the root folder, as would be expected.

I just can't see any reason why there should be a problem, but then I don't know what Sitemap Generator is actually doing and how this may differ from what Dreamweaver does when it FTP's files to the website server.
Does any of this info help?

Roger,
Great idea. I will get this added and investigate why FTP isn't working for a few people.
Thanks,
Brian

Good news! I was able to get a hold of an FTP server that was erroring with the software.
I updated the FTP logic and it uploads now...both old servers that worked and the new server that errored.
I am uploading a new version tonight.

I still want to add the diagnosis info. I will leave this topic open until it's done.
It should be very soon.

Hi Brian,

Sorry to continue bugging you on this one, but I downloaded and installed v4.1.1 this morning and I still have a problem uploading the sitemap to the server of one of my websites via FTP.
The error has changed, though. Now I get:
"Error: startIndex cannot be longer than length of string.
Parameter name: startIndex"

That's a weird error message. I will investigate.
And don't apologize. It should work for you.

All known FTP issues will be resolved in v5.0 set to be released 1/23/08.
v5.0 will support both PASV and PORT communication protocols.

Thanks,
