I decided to put my sitemap in a folder called sitemap to keep the root directory clean.
So I entered the path in the ftp settings as \sitemap\ The program loaded the files into that directory on the server but.....
It does not change the path statement in the sitemap index file.
It still tells the search engines that all the files for the sitemap are located in the root directory.
I know your not supposed to put things in a directory but I had a good reason to wish to do so and it is in compliance with the protocal established.
Thank You.

When the Google sitemaps program first came out, sitemap files had to be in the root directory. Several months ago, Google made a change to their rules and said the files could be located in any folder. We have not updated our software to adjust the path. In order to update the files, you'll need to open the google index file and change the path to the sitemap files. A simple "find and replace" will work.
