Hello,

I have downloaded the trial edition (sitemapgenerator 5.0) today for review and have found it to be the perfect tool we were looking for, unfortunately I encountered a problem that is a vital issue for us. When we load the program the prior web url's we have entered are in the URL drop box to select a site, however when one is selected and I move onto the "preferences" tab, all the information previously entered is gone. If I create a new site and choose to model the preferences after a previous site that shares the FTP data, again the preferences tab is blank. I have browsed to the site(s) folders and looked at options.xml for each one and the previously entered data IS present in the XML file. So in short it appears the program is not loading the options.xml file for some reason. Any help or explanation for this, if it is resolved we will purchase the license for the program as it is otherwise a great tool.

Hi Robert,

Each website has it's own preferences file (options.xml).
When you add a new site, you can choose to copy another site's preferences or start with the default preferences.
We have verified this works properly and that each website saves and loads its preferences independently.
Also, are you sure you are clicking the "Save" button after you make preference changes?
If you're still having a problem, please list the steps you are taking so we can try to recreate your issue.

Thanks,
Brian

Brian,

I have replied by direct e-mail to you with a video capture attachment of the process I followed and the source files content so you can see what i did from beginning to end and the source files to show it was properly saved. Let me know if you need further from me.

Robert

******* Disregard Above, the email had "Fatal Addresss Errors" :) anyways, follow link below and view it

Additionally you can view the video capture here: ------------------------------

We have reviewed the video and are puzzled. We tried it ourselves and it works perfectly...and we have never had this issue come up in the past 2-1/2 years. We also reviewed the code and we cannot see how it can happen. Can you zip up and email me your sitemaps directory?

Do we expect this issue to be resolved or answered today or should we plan for next week on a resolution? Thanks in advance

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the files. This is quite interesting (actually, quite frustrating).
We took your files and did exactly the same steps and it works.
We see you’re working on an XP machine…our developers run Vista, but we tried it on an XP machine and it worked there too.
We cannot figure out why it’s not working on your machine.

Unfortunately, if we cannot duplicate the problem, then we cannot fix it.
Worst case, when you create a new website you can copy-and-paste the options.xml file.
One question: How recently did you download and install the software? I don’t think there was ever an issue around this functionality, I’m just curious.

Thanks,
Brian

It as my intentions to do a clean install to see if that fixed the problem, however a uninstall and the re installations still leaves some data from the previous install. Are there registry keys or other directories which are not normally deleted by a unistall that i might need to clear away?

There is nothing else you will need to remove. The items left behind are pretty much just the sitemap files. This was intentionally done so you don't lose the work you have completed on an uninstall/reinstall.

Thanks,
Brian
